WW2019 will be our 50th Event.  This special weekend in our history will take place a week earlier than usual on the 11th and 12th May 2019. Please note in your diaries.

For all past and present friends, entrants, helpers, leaders and landowners who have supported us over the years a very big thank you.

To help celebrate this milestone we would like to receive any WW memories that you may have which can be posted direct to our social media sites or emailed to info@walthamwalk.org.uk  for collection onto our website.

Waltham Walk 2018 Thankyou

STAFFING: Thanks also to all visiting staff helping at checkpoints and with transportation, especially those helping for the first time. We look forward to you helping again next year, and you will be contacted for your availability in the spring, so we can plan the checkpoint staff duties in good time. Thanks also to our new St John’s Ambulance crew from Maldon, and the “Big Breakfast” from the good souls of Guithavon Valley Church Witham.

50thYEAR: As hopefully youknow now, 11/12MAY 2019 will be ourfiftieth event! Note this is 2 wks before the late May Bank Holiday,not our usual one, due to availability of Skreens Park. In 1970, ifwe managed 5 years, we thought we would be doing well! … any ideasyou have, any contact with people who have taken part, videos, photosand cine films (!) … we’d be delighted to hear from you. Entryforms will be posted to you in January 2018 & and watch website,facebook & twitter for news. Please notify us of any address orcontact or email changes in the meantime. Please take care of yourtrophies … we’d like them back next year, pristine, engraved andpolished! If there are any missing engravings from past years,please ask us for team names, get it done & send us the bill ..thanks.

Waltham Walk Committee final meeting

Check Point Marshals were briefed on the 09th May and all marshal information pack data now issued.

Check Point incidents all planned.  We have 126 entrants.

Hopefully the good weather will stay with us for the weekend.  Best of luck to all competitors.

Thanks to all volunteers and Check Point land owners for use of their property and for the St Johns Ambulance Brigade who will provide first aid cover.

Waltham Walk 2018 New Year update

  • Waltham, Walk entry forms issued.
  • Good news already notified of 3 entries.
  • Entries to be returned for the 21 April  to allow time for weekend start, camp and finish planning.
  • Route and checkpoint permissions complete.
  • Still need volunteers to help at checkpoints.  Please advise as soon as possible.

Waltham Walk updates

Over the last few weeks the Waltham Walk website has under gone a number of updates.

  • Changing hosting provider.
  • SSL enabled for greater security.
  • PWA – progressive web app configuration, so you can now have the website on you phone just like a real app.

Waltham Walk 2017 a bumper year

This year’s Waltham Walk Challenge Expedition across the Essex countryside was held over the weekend of the 20-21 May 2017 and for our 49th year a bumper entry of 167 of which 53 were Scouts, 91 Boys’ Brigade & Girls Association, 12 Independent and 11 ATC.   The Waltham Walk started at Pleshey Village Hall, Overnight camp at Skreens Park, finishing at Mountnessing Village Hall covering a distance of approximately 25 miles.  For the full team achievements go to the results section under 2017.

Skills of map reading, camp craft, and team work are but a few of the challenges the teams met over the weekend.    Congratulations to all teams on their success.

Note next years event will be held on the weekend of 19 and 20 May 2018 in the same area of Essex.   Entry forms will be available January 2018 but for more details check the Waltham Walk website and Twitter and Facebook for latest news.

Final Briefing before Waltham Walk 2017

Checkpoint staff & committee members met 10th May to finalise preparations for the event and brief Marshalls.

The Committee have walked the route, created route puzzles, & checkpoint permissions have been granted and incidents agreed.  

The event starts 20th May 0830 Pleshey Village Hall, camping overnight at Skreens Park and finishing at Mountenessing Village Hall on the 21st.

Team instructions have been issued and Marshall checkpoint control folders issued.  

There are 161 entrants this year so plenty of competition.

Update December 2016

Planning has commenced for Waltham Walk 2017 the youth challenge expedition in the Essex countryside. Start will be at Pleshey Village Hall, overnight camp Skreens Park and finish Mountnesssing Village Hall.   Book the date of the 20th and 21stMay 2017 for your teams to take part in this great adventure.  Entry forms are now available.  Route planning is underway.
