Waltham Walk 2022

Following the cancellation of the 2020 event, and the normal 2021 event, which was replaced with the highly successful WW21 on Tour, we are pleased to announce that plans for the Waltham Walk to return to its traditional format, are underway

So all being well, WW22 will be happening on the weekend of

Saturday 21st to Sunday 22nd May 2022

Who can enter?

Ages are as at 31 August 2022, so as to align with school years. There is an overlap between each age group.

Teeni Trek – non-competitive accompanied event for ages 10-12

Mini Trek – 2 day event for ages 12-14 (teams of 3 or 4)

Main Event – 2 day event for ages 14-19 (teams of 3 or 4)

There are also 1 or 2 day Veterans events for the over 19s (no age limit!)

What happens over the weekend?

Teams will assemble at the start on the Saturday, which will be located in Maldon, and walk between checkpoints, to an Overnight Camp at Danbury. On the Sunday teams will continue walking to the finish, back in Maldon. At each checkpoint, incidents (various initiative tests and challenges) will be carried out as well as finding answers to puzzles (observation tests) along the route

Sounds great! So how do we enter?

Our WW website is being completely rebuilt at the moment and we anticipate it being up and running by 1 January 2022 with online entry for the first time, so a lot of work is going on behind the scenes.

Entries will then be available from 1 January 2022. The closing date for entries will be the end of April, to allow time for fully comprehensive Team Instructions to be issued

Before then, please register your interest by emailing Mike Wilding (WW Chairman) on walthamwalk@boys-brigade.org.uk

We look forward to seeing you again in person next May!

Waltham Walk 2021 on Tour

After its sad but necessary cancellation in 2020 , we are delighted to announce that the Waltham Walk is back and returning over the weekend of Saturday 22nd/Sunday 23rd May, but not as you know it!

Teams from all over the UK will be able to enter as all participants will be based at their own HQ or locality, so no travelling to Essex will be necessary. Entry this year is also FREE.

Please see the Web site home page for full details, including the entry form. Please note that the closing date for entries this year is Tuesday 11th May.

We look forward to seeing you!

Take care and keep safe

Waltham Walk 2021 Date Confirmed

Further to our post of 20th March announcing the sad but unavoidable cancellation of this year’s event, the committee are delighted to now advise that the date of Waltham Walk 2021 (Edition 51) is confirmed as

Saturday 22nd to Sunday 23rd May 2021

Further details will be announced nearer the time but we very much look forward to seeing you all next year and bouncing back with one of our best ever events.

In the meantime may we wish you, your family and friends all the very best and to stay safe.

Waltham Walk 2020 Cancellation

During this week, with the closure of schools and all youth group communal activities due to the impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19), it has become clear the WALTHAM WALK 2020 would be unable to take place this May and so this message is to officially announce that the event will be cancelled this year.

It is not really practical to try and hold the event later in the year as the remainder of 2020 is now filled with uncertainty and the Waltham Walk is really an early summer event, relying on longer daylight hours and decent weather conditions at that time of year. Those of you with longer memories know that we had to cancel the event in 2001, due to ‘foot & mouth’ which pretty well closed down the entire countryside, but we bounced back from that in 2002, and the committee will be working hard in the autumn to give you all a great event next year. Our thoughts at the moment are to use the basic route and venues planned for 2020, but this will be considered carefully in the autumn, when things have hopefully returned to a degree of normality.

Date is likely to be the weekend of 22nd/23rd May 2021, the weekend before the late May Bank Holiday on 30th May. Again this will be confirmed in the autumn once venues are taking bookings again. We inevitably have one or two financial matters to deal with resulting from the cancellation of WW2020, but we hope these will not put too much of a dent in our finances.

It has been good to speak to the one or two of you who have telephoned/emailed me during the week, and good to hear all the ideas you have to keep your organisational groups together with inventive ideas using internet and social media. All the best with your youth work, during the next few challenging months.

May we also take this opportunity to wish you and yours all the very best in these difficult times: stay safe and well.

New Website now under construction

A new look for the Waltham Walk website will be taking shape over the next few weeks and months as we begin a process of modernisation, including offering the convenience of entering the race online.

Please bear with us while the new site is being developed. We will, of course, very much appreciate any feedback once we are up and running.

Thank you.
